Archery park at Opossum Creek in Shelbyville
In 1963 the construction of Lake Shelbyville began to help stabilize flooding in the Mississippi Valley. Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) manages the Lake as well as seven campgrounds that attract millions of tourists plus avid hunters and fishermen every year.
Through a recent partnership with Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA), an archery park was built at Opossum Creek in Shelbyville. The park has been a great addition to the area and allowed for more community members to be involved in the public land.
Read more about the USACE, BHA, and their partnership in the May issue of the Illinois Country Living magazine under “Faith’s Roadtrip” in the Shelby News center section. These should hit your mailboxes soon.
